Moving Together! Newsletter - Week 5
Welcome back to our weekly newsletter! This week we're exploring the fascinating science of how moving together in coordinated ways can strengthen your bond as a couple.
This Week's Tale for Two
Moving Together Builds Chemistry
Studies show that when couples engage in coordinated physical activity, like dancing, hiking, or even mirror exercises, they tend to feel more connected and in sync. It creates a sense of "team flow," releases feel good chemicals, and boosts mutual attraction.
— Lakin et al., 2003 – Psychological Science
This research reveals something beautiful about human connection - when we move in harmony with our partner, our brains literally sync up. The coordinated movement triggers the release of endorphins and oxytocin, creating a natural high that we associate with our partner. It's why dancing together feels so romantic, why hiking as a couple can be so bonding, and why even simple activities like walking in step can make us feel more connected.
Your Next Date Idea
Try a Dance Class Together
Pick a local salsa, swing, or ballroom dance class. The goal is to move, laugh, and fumble through it together!
This activity perfectly captures the power of coordinated movement:
- Physical synchronization - learning to move as one unit
- Shared vulnerability - everyone's a beginner at some point
- Playful connection - laughter is inevitable when you're learning together
- Team accomplishment - celebrating small victories as a pair
Pro tip: Don't worry about being perfect! The magic happens in the moments when you're both figuring it out together, laughing at missteps, and celebrating when you finally nail that turn.
Personal Note
We played the game the other day and ended up inside a cathedral we'd seen for years! One of the cards dared one of us to mimic a statue. It was such a small moment, but it made the whole afternoon feel like a tiny adventure.
It's amazing how a simple dare can transform a familiar place into something completely new. We'd walked past that cathedral countless times, but we'd never actually gone inside together. The card gave us the perfect excuse to explore, and that silly moment of mimicking a statue - trying not to giggle while tourists walked by - turned into one of those memories we'll probably laugh about for years. Sometimes the smallest acts of silliness create the biggest sense of adventure.
Card of the Week
This week's featured card is "Candle Light" – a card that invites couples to step into a church or cathedral, look at the stained glass, whisper a wish, and light a candle for their next adventure. It's the perfect example of how simple actions can create profound moments of connection and shared intention.
